franklin_bashHello anyone who still survives on this side of the internet! Here's a discussion post for episode 401, and I still can't believe we're on season 4, that's so weird and so brilliant and so unlikely.
Here are a very few caps with just some slight thoughts, I'll maybe talk more properly about my feelings in comments. And I'll probably put up a proper caps post in a day or so too.

I liked both the new characters. And I missed all the old ones.

Date: 2014-08-14 01:48 pm (UTC)I really miss Carmen, but I do love the idea of how sulky Peter and Jared are at her deciding to move out. I wish we'd had - or get - a scene of Peter and Jared dealing with empty nest syndrome. I hope Carmen moved out because she got an amazing boy/girlfriend and has gone into business for herself.
And I did like their new investigator. I like that even they are baffled by him and beautiful when they look at him. The new associate woman seems like she might be cool too even though we barely got to see her.
Ellen was amazing. I love that she's still Ellen and I don't even mind that Jared still loves her and that they're not allowed to have sex and it's just like Hanna all over again except with a white woman because Ellen is amazing and I love that she still gets to hate them and be pissed off with her career and I love Jared just going 'she seems happy here' and I love her not letting her client interrupt when she's winning.
Peter's fake fainting <3333 I want a scene beforehand where Jared's like 'so are you going to be okay when he tears my arm off?' and Peter's all playing it cool and Jared's talking about blood spewing everywhere just to make sure he really gets it and then maybe Peter gets a bit pale and flaksjdofijwe I don't know. I love the way Peter faints.
I love that they're poor and we get a diner back. THAT IS THE VERY BEST THING. All the food and how happy it makes them. I love them being high. I love everything about them. I love that Jared wears clothes. I love that he wanted to kill that man and steal his thing. And how Peter held him back as soon as Crystal Skull was mentioned. And Peter laughing at truffle pig.
Also them being awful to Damien and then quietly going 'oh I miss him' was so so so so perfect.

Date: 2014-08-15 01:37 am (UTC)Jared stuffing his face with strawberry whipped cream waffles/pancakes in his mouth was like the greatest thing ever. Everything about it was so perf. And I totally wanted Peter to lean over and kiss him under the guise of 'you've got some whipped cream right there'.
It kind of felt like the writers know what the plot was (and what all the back story of what happened was) and then they forgot a bit that they had to explain things to the audience, so there was this vague feeling of 'did I miss something?', like you kind of had to piece it together.
Swatello is really amazing. I'm glad that she exists. Even if she is a bit Hanna.
Stanton's beard was glorious. As was, I think I heard this anyway, when he replied to his boss about bringing the car around he maybe sort of dropped his accent...? Or, rather, he did more of an american sounding "okay"... idk, but I kind of really hopped that it actually happened, like Stanton doesn't want the other grease monkeys to know he's not from around there or something.
I hope Carmen moved out because she got an amazing boy/girlfriend and has gone into business for herself.
Yes. This is the only thing that I will accept. That's totally what happened.

Yes yes! And Jared totally gave him a signal in the court room, like 'go on, faint now' and it was probably because when they practiced Peter had to concentrate so hard of not freaking out that he'd miss his cue.
Them being poor again is so amazing. Like I hadn't realized how much I missed that until it happened again. And then I was just like 'yes, perfect this is how everything should be'.
Also them being awful to Damien and then quietly going 'oh I miss him' was so so so so perfect.
They want him back and he probably wants to be back but he's full of pride and stubbornness and not wanting to admit that he liked the time he probably spent drunk on their couch.
I'm so glad they're back. :D

Date: 2014-08-15 09:04 am (UTC)I like more the slight au that I'd assumed before the episode where Jared didn't tell him about his arm being torn off and Peter fainted for real and then was all angry that he didn't tell him and Jared being all 'everyone knows you're weak, if you didn't faint noone would buy it', but also apologising with cuddling and stroking. But never mind.

You know I'd only kill someone for money, or a zombie apocalypse, not for a case...'

Yes to it all! And then Peter realizes that they're being stared at and whispers 'maintain' to Jared like if they just go back to quietly eating no one will suspect anything and Jared just like 'you maintain' and boops Peter on the nose with a cream covered strawberry and then kisses him and Peter's like 'but that's not where the whipped cream is' and Jared just dissolves into giggles.
I love that this show gives us so much to work with.

That's all I can say because I think literally that is the best most truest actual scene they forgot to film ever ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ And then the credits could just roll, with that nice fade out to the diner sign that we got anyway, and the next episode could just start with them waking up in bed together and getting on with their lives.

Peter watches Storage Wars. I bet Pindar used to watch that and Peter made fun of him at first but then he started to just casually sit with him on the couch and got into it, and now Pindar is gone and maybe they skype watch it together...That headcanon just got away from me (there has to be a show Jared and Carmen used to watch together, there has to!)

Nobody mentioned (yet! I know) Peter casually feeding grapes to Jared and acting like it's not a big deal, we do this all the time, we do it in public, in out kitchen, bedrooms, ALL THE TIME! They're adorable, there should be more feeding each other!

The fatness thing is rubbish, and it especially jars for me because Peter used to be fat and I just, it doesn't fit with me that Jared would then ever say any fat comments about anybody in case they upset Peter, and Peter . . I suppose some ex-fat people are rubbish, but it feels very lazy writing yes.

Date: 2014-08-20 08:26 pm (UTC)I cannot believe that they made us wait a whole entire year for new episodes. I know that a fourth season is three seasons more than we thought we'd get, but still, we have been *very* patient. That said, they did NOT disappoint…
I'm glad Rachel is gone, she was an odd character and I never really warmed to her. I love that Stanton is working in a garage and that the boys are working on getting his licence back. Although part of me can see Stanton slowly taking over the garage until he's dispensing free legal advice with every oil change.
Infeld, Daniels, Franklin & Bash! They do appear to basically have recreated the frat boy-esque, Man Cave-based Franklin & Bash from the pilot episode, just in a swanky LA office though. Then again, I think this is a good thing. I don’t want them to be sensible, staid, corporate lawyers working for rich clients - if I wanted that, I'd watch Suits. I want them to be feared in a courtroom because they might get a witness drunk or bring an alligator in to win a case, not because they're professionals!
I miss Carmen and Pindar. But also, the new characters seem quite interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing where their stories go. However, all of this is eclipsed by SWATELLO!! Oh, how I love her! I love that Stanton lured her into his respected law firm, only to leave her with Jared and Peter in charge. I love that she flirts with and despises Jared in equal measure. I love that she just hates Peter. I love that she's still a good lawyer, despite hating the firm and being rude to her clients. I just love everything about her!
Peter feeding Jared a grape was literally the best thing ever. And Peter and Jared getting stoned with their clients was also literally the best thing ever. As was the Diner munchies, because a) Diner - yay! And b) Breckin eating waffles and strawberries and cream can never be a bad thing. They probably had to do quite a few takes so I imagine Breckin being quite sticky and uncomfortably full afterwards. And I imagine MPG gently rubbing Breckin's belly afterwards in their trailer (because why would they have one each?) I imagine him finding strawberry sauce and cream on Breckin's fingers and slowly licking it off. I imagine *a lot* of things based on this scene…
Also, anyone else think that when Jared was pretending to be shrinking at the end of the weed scene, that it looked like he was going to just go down on Peter right there in the conference room? And then be disappointed when it totally didn't happen? Okay, not just me then.
And Damien! Of course he jumped ship to a more prestigious law firm as soon as he had the chance - and this way he gets to go up against the boys again. I really liked how they left it between them at the end of the last season, and a small part of me was hoping to find that six month later, Damien was still crashing on their couch or in a spare room and still calling it a temporary arrangement. But then, I could watch an entire show just about the three of them living together. I hope they end up working together again before the end of the season.
The beach house and being poor again makes for an interesting juxtaposition, but they're more interesting when they don’t know where their next paycheck is coming from because
then they might have to resort to prostitutionit fits better with the whole championing the underdog thing. Speaking of plots we've already written - how many more of our fic/random Comm discussion ideas are they going to "borrow" and think that we won't notice? I mean, this week's cursed artefact? In my head it quickly became the most beautiful alligator attack hurt/comfort fic because that is how my head works, but ANY ALLIGATOR FIC, that is so like them. And Jared would be like 'this is so Miami Vice, we should keep her, she can live on the deck' and then there would be blood everywhere and all the jurors are screaming and Peter's fainted and he would just quietly decide maybe not.
(I know this isn't a popular opinion and it's not always my opinion, and some of it is my opinion because I love Hanna and I hate that he got to stay and she had to go both in a real life and inside canon sense, which isn't even his fault and is an irrational emotion, but: Damien works better for me in smaller doses. His whole trying to be a judge thing last year really bored me, and it wasn't helped by his hair, and then he was quite whiny before he had a beautiful breakdown, which I liked a lot more. But yes, I really love him as a minor(ish) character and I actually wouldn't be sad if he didn't come back and just showed up every episode to make them beautifully sad and betrayed and sentimental and annoyed. I am SUPER glad his hair isn't terrible any more, though.)
And you're so right about the diner scene, like even if they shot it perfectly first time through the whole crew would be like 'no, we probably need to shoot that again... and again...' because BRECKIN EATING WAFFLES AND CREAM, HOW COULD THEY EVER LET HIM STOP.
Candypinksocks had SUCH a more sensible reaction to cursed objects than canon did. And when we were talking about how many of our ideas they've used I totally voted for the Pretty Woman one to come up next. I fear it won't, but MAYBE. Like you say, season 9 would totally go for it.
